New Delhi, Aug 29: The Supreme Court is set to hear on August 31 a petition seeking mandatory and uniform disclosure of the exact ethanol content in petrol at fuel stations across the country.
As per the apex court’s causelist, the matter will be heard by a bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale.
The petition, filed by Narendra Kumar Goswami, seeks directions to the Centre and other authorities to ensure that every petrol dispensing nozzle carries clear and uniform labelling specifying the percentage of ethanol blended in the fuel.
The petitioner has also sought a direction requiring fuel stations to clearly mention the ethanol percentage in petrol on every fuel invoice issued to consumers.
The plea seeks greater transparency for consumers regarding the composition of petrol being sold at fuel stations.
