Kargil, May 19 : The Kargil administration on Monday carried out another phase of its ongoing beautification and clearance campaign in the Baroo–Upper Changchik area, removing redundant poles and overhead telecom wires to improve public convenience and streamline commuter movement.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ghulam Mohd as part of a phased initiative aimed at improving the visual landscape and reducing obstruction along key stretches of the town.
Officials said unnecessary poles and unused overhead wires belonging to various telecom operators were dismantled during the operation to ease pedestrian and vehicular movement while also enhancing the appearance of the area.
Representatives from the Municipal Committee, Revenue Department and telecom service providers participated in the exercise, which forms part of the district administration’s broader urban improvement campaign.
The administration stated that similar drives would continue across different parts of Kargil district in a phased manner under the ongoing public convenience and beautification initiative launched on the directions of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena.
Officials maintained that the campaign was intended to address civic concerns linked to encroachments, unused infrastructure and visual clutter while promoting cleaner and more accessible public spaces in urban areas of the district.
