LAHORE/KARACHI, Mar 31: Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has been charged with ball‑tampering in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), reigniting old doubts about Pakistan cricket’s conduct on the field.
Zaman has been slapped with a Level 3 offence under the PSL Code of Conduct for allegedly altering the condition of the ball during Lahore Qalandars’ match against Karachi Kings, which the umpires penalised with five runs and shifted the final‑over momentum in favour of the Kings. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has opened a disciplinary hearing, and Zaman has denied the charge ahead of a final verdict within the next 48 hours.
If found guilty, the 35‑year‑old opener could face at least a one‑match ban and a fine, marking the second serious ball‑tampering scare in his career. The incident has also drawn flak from former Pakistan greats, who have warned that captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and bowler Haris Rauf could also attract sanctions if found complicit
