New Delhi, October 24: A parliamentary committee has selected six key subjects for detailed examination during 2026–27, including a proposed increase in the allocation under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), timely completion of development projects and technological challenges affecting fund disbursement.
According to a Lok Sabha bulletin issued on Friday, the Committee on MPLADS selected the subjects at a meeting held on October 5.
The panel, headed by Congress Lok Sabha member K. Suresh, will examine the existing guidelines governing the release of MPLADS funds and assess the need to increase the annual allocation available to MPs.
The committee will also review mechanisms for monitoring and ensuring the timely execution of development works undertaken under the scheme. In addition, it will examine the functioning of facilitation centres and identify technological hurdles affecting fund disbursement through the E-SAKSHI portal.
Another important subject selected for examination is the feasibility of integrating MPLADS with the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) scheme under the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025.
The selected topics cover several aspects of the scheme, including funding requirements, project implementation, monitoring systems and the use of technology to improve the delivery of development funds.
Members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have repeatedly demanded an increase in the annual MPLADS allocation. The existing provision of ₹5 crore per MP per year has remained unchanged since 2011–12.
Several MPs have called for raising the allocation to between ₹18 crore and ₹20 crore annually, citing increasing development requirements in their constituencies.
However, the government has yet to take a final decision on the proposed enhancement.
The committee’s examination is expected to bring renewed attention to the funding structure, implementation challenges and operational efficiency of the MPLADS scheme.
