PAKISTAN DEC 10 : A new report reviewed by Pakistan’s Parliamentary Committee on the Minority Caucus reveals a dire state for minority religious sites, with just 37 out of 1,817 Hindu temples and gurdwaras remaining operational across the Muslim-majority nation. The findings highlight decades of neglect, illegal encroachments, and administrative apathy that have led to the vanishing of these heritage structures from Pakistan’s cultural landscape.
The report comes days after India criticised Pakistan’s record on minority rights amid ongoing accusations of bigotry and repression. Only a fraction of these sacred sites—less than 2%—continue to serve their communities, underscoring systemic challenges faced by Hindus, Sikhs, and other minorities in preserving their places of worship.
