SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday introduced five bills in the Legislative Assembly, including legislation concerning the salaries and pensions of ministers and legislators, ease of doing business, and amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law.
Abdullah introduced separate bills seeking amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Ministers’ and Ministers of State Salaries Act, 1956; the Salaries and Allowances of Members of the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Act, 1960; and the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Members’ Pension Act, 1984.
He also introduced a bill aimed at consolidating and amending existing laws to promote rule-based governance and reduce permission-based controls.
The proposed legislation seeks to facilitate citizens and businesses in planning, investing and operating with greater certainty, while promoting ease of doing business and ease of living.
According to the stated objectives of the bill, the measures are intended to encourage employment generation, attract investment and support sustained long-term economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister also introduced a bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
The bills were introduced during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
