Leh, Sept 29: The District Administration Kargil has announced the opening of online applications for hostel accommodation in Jammu and Srinagar for the academic session 2025-26. The initiative is aimed at students from Kargil District pursuing higher education or professional coaching in institutions located in these two cities.
As per the notification, the application process commenced on September 29 and will close on October 10, 2025. Selection will be carried out either through a written entrance examination or on the basis of academic merit, as determined by the District Level Committee. Hostel facilities will be provided in Kargil-based hostels situated at both Srinagar and Jammu.
The eligibility criteria mandate that applicants must be domiciles of Kargil District and enrolled as regular students in recognized schools, colleges, universities, or coaching institutes in offline mode. Furthermore, candidates should not be availing of any government residential accommodation in the respective cities and must furnish valid proof of current enrolment.
The administration has also outlined a reservation policy. Eighty percent of seats are earmarked for students from general low-income households with an annual family income of up to ₹3 lakh, supported by an income certificate. Ten percent of seats are reserved for Below Poverty Line (BPL) students with income up to ₹1 lakh. Students with disabilities will have a 5 percent quota, subject to a valid benchmark disability certificate, while another 5 percent is reserved for orphans and single-parent students, verified by the concerned Tehsildar.
