Leh, Apr 15: In a display of youth engagement and civic awareness, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Leh District, organised a commemorative programme on Tuesday to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, drawing participation from students, volunteers and community members across the region.

Held under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event blended tribute with outreach, as more than 200 participants gathered to honour the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and his enduring fight against social inequality.

The proceedings began with a floral tribute to Ambedkar’s portrait, followed by a series of addresses highlighting his contribution to constitutional governance and social reform. Speakers urged the youth to internalise his principles of justice, liberty and equality in both public and personal spheres.

A defining feature of the programme was an awareness rally through Leh town, where participants echoed Ambedkar’s call to “Educate, Agitate, Organize,” underlining the continuing relevance of his message in contemporary society. The rally aimed to sensitise the public on issues of inclusivity and social harmony.

Youth volunteers from local colleges and MY Bharat clubs also took part in a pledge ceremony, reaffirming their commitment to inclusive development. The event further showcased Ladakh’s cultural vibrancy through folk performances and devotional renditions, adding a community dimension to the observance.

Tajamul Ara, State Director, UT Ladakh, in her address, stressed the role of youth in nation-building and called for channelising their energy towards constructive social change. She linked Ambedkar’s vision with MY Bharat’s guiding ethos of collective progress and shared growth.

The programme concluded with the distribution of saplings and certificates among active volunteers, symbolising both environmental responsibility and recognition of youth participation.

The observance in Leh formed part of nationwide commemorations, reflecting a broader effort to engage young citizens with the ideals of equality, constitutional values and social justice championed by Ambedkar.
