Jammu, Oct 08: The Core Committee of Movement Kalki (Future Thinkers) has raised strong objections to two recent decisions by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, describing them as contrary to public interest.
Under the leadership of Deepak Singh, the committee convened an emergency meeting to discuss growing concerns over the government’s move to replace smart electric meters with pre-paid meters. Residents of Jammu have been grappling with persistent power supply issues due to faulty readings from the existing smart meters. Despite official assurances of 24-hour uninterrupted electricity, frequent power cuts continue to disrupt daily life.
Sumeshwar Kohli, a legal advisor with the movement, described the pre-paid meter initiative as an undue burden on residents. “The government’s decision to implement pre-paid electricity meters unnecessarily burdens innocent residents. This move is against public interest and requires immediate reconsideration,” he said.
The committee also criticized the imposition of property tax, warning that such policies are heightening financial insecurity among citizens. Kohli added that these measures are contributing to social and mental stress, urging the administration to prioritize public welfare.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from Movement Kalki to advocate for citizens affected by these policies. The committee emphasized that decisions with wide-ranging implications for public welfare should be made only after thorough consultation and careful consideration.
Legal advisors attending the session included Sumeshwar Kohli, Adv. Uma Kaphai, Adv. Raghav Kohli, Adv. Mohd Bilal, Adv. Kajol Kour, and Adv. Ritika Singh Verma. Other key members present were Advisor Pritam Sharma, Organising Secretary Karnail Chand, and board members Dr. Sudesh Kumar and Rajinder.
