Kargil, Apr 8: World Health Day was observed at Council Model High School Goma in Kargil on Tuesday, with a joint initiative by the Village Education Committee (VEC) Goma and Military Hospital Kargil aimed at promoting awareness on hygiene, nutrition, and healthy living among students.
The programme brought together medical professionals, educators, and local stakeholders, with Captain Dr. Ankitha Reddy of Military Hospital Kargil attending as the Chief Guest. Secretary of VEC Goma, Abass Ali Khan, was present as the Guest of Honour. The event was attended by Headmaster Haji Asgar Ali Tak, senior journalist Anayat Ali, members of the VEC, teaching staff, and nearly 100 students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Reddy underscored the relevance of World Health Day and elaborated on this year’s theme, “Together for Health: Stand with Science.” She urged students to adopt balanced dietary habits, engage in regular physical activity, and maintain personal hygiene. Highlighting the benefits of locally available food, she noted that traditional diets, often organic and fresh, contribute to better health and help prevent lifestyle-related ailments.
She also outlined career avenues in the medical and health sector, encouraging students to pursue their ambitions with discipline and commitment.
The programme featured student-led activities designed to reinforce health awareness. A skit depicting the importance of safeguarding clean water sources and maintaining hygiene drew attention, while a student presentation explained the significance of World Health Day. Cultural performances added variety to the proceedings.
Speaking on the occasion, Abass Ali Khan expressed appreciation for the continued engagement of Military Hospital Kargil with the school, stating that such outreach initiatives play an important role in shaping awareness and responsible behaviour among students. He expressed hope that similar programmes would continue in the future.
Headmaster Haji Asgar Ali Tak also acknowledged the contribution of the Indian Army and the hospital team in guiding students on health-related issues and career opportunities. He requested that an exposure visit to Military Hospital Kargil be arranged to provide students with practical insights into the medical profession.
The event concluded with the presentation of a memento to the Chief Guest in recognition of her participation.
