Kolkata, May 14 : Former West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday appeared before the Calcutta High Court in connection with a case related to alleged post-poll violence and attacks on Trinamool Congress party offices.
Banerjee arrived at the court wearing a lawyer’s gown, accompanied by senior TMC leaders Chandrima Bhattacharya and Kalyan Banerjee.
The matter relates to a public interest litigation filed by advocate Shirshanya Bandyopadhyay on behalf of the TMC, which alleges attacks on party offices and violence against workers following the announcement of the 2026 Assembly election results.
The petitioner has claimed that several TMC leaders and workers were forced to leave their homes after the polls, while many were allegedly targeted due to their association with the party.
The PIL was filed on May 12 and came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen.
In a post on X, the TMC said Banerjee personally appeared before the court to argue the matter concerning alleged post-poll violence in West Bengal, claiming she continues to stand by the people of the state in times of distress.
The party further stated that Banerjee consistently upholds “truth, justice and constitutional values” and reiterated its criticism of political opponents, alleging targeting of its workers and supporters.
