Srinagar, June 19 : Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra beginning on July 3, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi on Friday directed security personnel to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of operational readiness to effectively tackle all security and logistical challenges.
Chairing a briefing for zonal and sector officers, Birdi reviewed coordination and preparedness along the pilgrimage routes. The meeting was attended by senior officers, including DIGs of Central and South Kashmir ranges, DIG Armed Kashmir, and other officials deputed for the yatra.
The IGP stressed the importance of professionalism, vigilance and public service to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the 57-day pilgrimage. He directed officers to implement the security grid effectively and conduct regular briefings for personnel to keep them updated on their responsibilities and the prevailing security situation.
Birdi also emphasized close coordination with sister agencies for seamless information sharing and synchronized operations throughout the yatra period. He urged police personnel to adopt a people-friendly approach and extend all possible assistance to devotees to ensure their safety and convenience.
Highlighting the need for strict discipline and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the IGP called upon all ranks to uphold the force’s reputation through exemplary conduct.
The meeting concluded with a detailed review of coordination mechanisms and contingency plans to ensure a peaceful and incident-free yatra. The pilgrimage will commence simultaneously from the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal on July 3 and conclude on August 28.
