Kavinder Gupta has resigned from his position as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, bringing his tenure of about nine months to an end. He had assumed office on July 18, 2025.
Gupta made history as Ladakh’s third Lieutenant Governor and the first politician to hold the post in the Union Territory. His resignation comes just as he was approaching the one-year mark of his appointment.
However, the official reason for his resignation has not yet been announced. The central government is expected to take a decision soon regarding the appointment of a new Lieutenant Governor or an interim arrangement for the Union Territory.
