KATRA, March 5: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday criticised the United States and Israel over their strikes on Iran, saying no country has the right to impose its control over another sovereign nation.
Speaking to reporters in Katra, Abdullah said Iran is an independent country and the attack on it was unjustified. He stressed that invading another nation is wrong and warned that such actions could destabilise the region and have wider global consequences.
Abdullah also said it was the responsibility of the Government of India to clearly present its position on the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. According to him, the escalating tensions could affect countries around the world and may even trigger a larger global conflict if the situation continues to worsen.
Warning of serious repercussions, the National Conference leader said the conflict could potentially escalate into a wider war. He urged that the crisis be handled with responsibility to prevent further instability.
Referring to public sentiment, Abdullah said there was anger among Muslims over the developments but emphasised that protests should remain peaceful.
The remarks come amid protests in parts of Jammu and Kashmir following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israel strikes, which has intensified tensions in the region.
