Kargil/Leh: Ladakh along with rest of the nation celebrated 556th Prakash Purab Celebration of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji with religious fervour, Devotional songs and religious discourses on Wednesday.

Continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scripture) were conducted in Gurdwaras, besides devotional songs and religious discourses on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings of equality, selfless service (seva), and universal brotherhood were held.

In Kargil, 556th Prakash Purab (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji celebrations were held at Gurudwara Charan Kamal, Kargil. The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon attended the celebration.

The occasion was marked by deep devotion, joy, and a spirit of unity among devotees. The celebrations commenced with the recitation of Akhand Path and soulful Kirtan, filling the Gurudwara Sahib with divine serenity and spiritual warmth.

A large gathering comprising the civil sangat and Army personnel participated in the event, offering prayers and reflecting on the timeless teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Gurus.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon highlighted the universal teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, emphasizing compassion, humility, equality, and service to humanity.

He appreciated the efforts of the local Sikh community for preserving and promoting the rich spiritual and cultural traditions that strengthen harmony and brotherhood in Kargil.

The event concluded with the serving of Guru ka Langar, where devotees partook in the sacred meal, embodying the spirit of equality, humility, and community service — the core values of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings.
