Jammu, October 25 : The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, on Saturday launched a three-day health check-up camp under the Phenome India – CSIR Health Cohort Knowledge Base (PI-CHeCK) initiative. The camp will run from October 25 to 27, focusing on preventive healthcare and research to develop personalised healthcare solutions for the Indian population.
The initiative is part of a nationwide health research programme being implemented across 37 CSIR laboratories, with the aim of strengthening scientific research, systematic health monitoring and data-driven healthcare in line with the vision of Swasth Bharat, Viksit Bharat.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM Jammu, inaugurated the camp. Organised for serving employees, pensioners and their spouses, the programme is expected to benefit around 150 voluntary participants.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ahmed highlighted the importance of the initiative, being undertaken under the mentorship of Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also Vice President of CSIR. He said the programme would help researchers better understand health patterns among Indians and develop improved approaches to disease prevention, early diagnosis and personalised treatment.
He explained that the initiative aims to build a comprehensive health database by combining large-scale health information with advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The findings could help identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers associated with various diseases and strengthen the foundation for precision medicine suited to the Indian population.
After inaugurating the camp, Dr. Ahmed visited the testing stations, reviewed the arrangements and interacted with scientists, healthcare personnel and volunteers. He appreciated the organising team’s efforts and encouraged employees, pensioners and their spouses to participate actively.
Participants will undergo several health assessments during the camp, including lung function tests, liver and kidney function tests, complete blood count (CBC) and lipid profile. The assessments are intended to provide insights into participants’ health while contributing to research on lifestyle-related and other diseases.
The camp is being coordinated by Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi in collaboration with the PI-CHeCK team from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB). The national programme is coordinated by Dr. Shantanu Sengupta, Chief Scientist at CSIR-IGIB and Principal Investigator of the project, under the supervision of Dr. Souvik Maiti, Director of CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi.
Several heads of research and administrative divisions attended the inauguration, including Er. Abdul Rahim, Dr. Asha Chaubey, Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi, Dr. Rajkishor Rai, Dr. Saurabh Saran, Kaushal Kumar and Rajesh Kumar Gupta.
The programme, scheduled to conclude on October 27, is being conducted under the overall supervision and patronage of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed. It reflects CSIR-IIIM Jammu’s focus on employee wellness, preventive healthcare and scientific research aimed at improving health outcomes.
