New Delhi/Leh, Jan 9: A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ladakh today urged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to speed up work on the Korzok–Spiti Road and to prioritise the engagement of local workers and suppliers from the Union Territory.
The team, led by BJP Ladakh State President Tashi Gyaltson Khachu and Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Councillor LAHDC Kargil, met DG BRO Lt Gen Harpal Singh, VSM, in New Delhi.
During the meeting, Khachu raised concerns over slow progress on the road project, saying the delay was holding back development in the region. He stressed that the road holds strong strategic value and its early completion would improve connectivity for border villages.
He informed the DG that CEC LAHDC Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson had already submitted a detailed representation on the subject, urging the BRO to speed up work.
The leaders also asked the BRO to ensure that jobs and contracts linked to the project benefit local residents.
They said using local labour and purchasing material from local vendors would strengthen the economy of Ladakh and create sustainable employment opportunities.
The DG BRO assured the delegation that the concerns would be reviewed and necessary steps would be taken.
