Jammu: The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan, presented An Evening of Classical Music at the Writer’s Club, K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu, on Wednesday, drawing an enthusiastic audience of music connoisseurs and classical art enthusiasts.

The event opened with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, setting a reverent tone for the evening dedicated to Indian classical traditions. Sonali Arun Gupta, JKAS, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, in her welcome address, underscored the Academy’s commitment to nurturing the region’s artistic heritage and encouraging younger generations to connect with classical art forms.

The performances began with a Classical Vocal Recital by Karanjeet Singh, whose mastery over ragas and emotive presentation earned resounding applause from the audience. His soulful rendering established a serene yet powerful atmosphere within the hall.

This was followed by a Pakhawaj Solo by Kumari Chitrangana Agle Reshwal from Delhi, whose intricate rhythmic patterns and spontaneous improvisations showcased remarkable command over the percussion art, leaving the listeners enthralled.

The evening culminated with a Thumri–Dadra recital by Kakali Mukherjee from Kolkata. Her expressive voice and nuanced interpretation of the compositions infused the gathering with lyrical warmth and emotional resonance.

The performances were enriched by the accompaniment of Sanjit Mukherjee and Rajveer Singh on Tabla, and Gouri Shankar on Harmonium, whose deft support lent musical balance and depth to the renditions.

The programme was conducted by Rajkumar Behrupia, while Vijay Sambyal proposed the formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the artists, organizers, and audience for their participation in celebrating India’s classical musical heritage.

The evening concluded amid applause and appreciation, reaffirming Jammu’s vibrant cultural spirit and the Academy’s ongoing mission to preserve and promote the timeless traditions of Indian classical music.
