Jammu, March 13: The Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries (DGAT) has issued a detailed rebuttal to recent media reports alleging widespread delays in contract payments across Jammu & Kashmir, labeling the stories as entirely false and misleading.
In an official statement, DGAT asserted that every single liability related to contractor payments has been fully settled, with absolutely no backlog pending at any treasury level. “The fact remains that the department has released the complete allocation under Capital Expenditure (Capex), ensuring smooth financial flow to all ongoing projects,” the statement emphasized.
The DGAT highlighted its commitment to timely disbursals amid J&K’s push for infrastructure growth, noting that rigorous audits and real-time tracking prevent any accumulation of dues. This comes after reports surfaced claiming contractors were struggling due to prolonged waits, sparking concerns over project timelines and local business health.
Directing a pointed message to media houses, DGAT urged them to seek and incorporate the Finance department’s perspective before publication. “Balanced, professional reporting requires hearing all sides, especially on matters impacting public trust and economic activity,” it added.
The clarification aims to restore confidence among contractors and developers working on key initiatives like roads, schools, and urban projects under the UT’s development agenda. With full Capex funds disbursed, DGAT reaffirmed no hurdles remain for legitimate claims, calling for an end to speculative coverage that could deter investment.
