Leh: In a step towards improving public amenities and supporting sustainable tourism, the Indian Army, under Operation Sadbhavana, constructed and formally handed over a public convenience building to the local community at Nimu here.
The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aiming to bridge critical sanitation gaps at one of Ladakh’s culturally and historically important locations.
Nimu, situated at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, attracts a steady flow of tourists, pilgrims and local visitors throughout the year, making adequate sanitation facilities a long-standing need.
The newly constructed public convenience facility is expected to significantly enhance hygiene standards for both visitors and residents. By providing clean and accessible sanitation infrastructure, the project addresses public health concerns while improving the overall visitor experience at the site.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, terming it a timely intervention that will not only ensure cleanliness but also contribute to the promotion of local tourism. Improved basic amenities are anticipated to increase tourist footfall, thereby generating indirect economic benefits for the village through hospitality, guiding services and local commerce.
