Chiktan, Feb 15: The four-day Traditional Archery Competition 2026 concluded on Sunday at the Archery Stadium, Kukarchay Chiktan, bringing to a close a spirited sporting event that reflected Ladakh’s enduring bond with its ancestral traditions.
The tournament, which began on February 12, saw enthusiastic participation from archers representing various mohallas of the area. Over the course of four days, the stadium witnessed large gatherings of residents, with elders and youth turning up in large numbers to cheer for their respective teams.
The atmosphere remained festive throughout, underlining the deep cultural roots of archery in the region. The sport, regarded as one of Ladakh’s oldest traditions, continues to draw admiration for its blend of precision, discipline, and collective pride.
Tehsildar Shakar Chiktan, Sajjad Hussain, attended the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he lauded the organisers for their sustained efforts in promoting traditional sports and safeguarding the region’s cultural heritage. He urged the younger generation to remain actively involved in constructive pursuits and to preserve the customs that shape Ladakh’s identity.
The event was also attended by the Incharge Police Post, Chiktan, Islamic scholars, and village representatives, who appreciated the discipline and sportsmanship displayed by the participants. They observed that such competitions serve as a platform for strengthening communal harmony and fostering a healthy competitive spirit among the youth.
The competition featured several closely contested rounds, with archers demonstrating sharp focus and impressive accuracy. The crowd’s applause and encouragement added vibrancy to each contest, especially during the final rounds.
In the overall standings, Mohallah Hassanabad secured the first position to lift the title. Mohallah Zgang finished second, followed by Mohallah Kukarchay in third place. Mohallah Khardoon secured the fourth position in the tournament.
Prizes were distributed to the winning teams and outstanding performers during the valedictory ceremony. The organisers expressed gratitude to participants, officials, volunteers, and residents for their support, which ensured the smooth conduct of the event.
The conclusion of the Traditional Archery Competition once again highlighted the community’s resolve to sustain and promote its sporting heritage, ensuring that the tradition continues to thrive among future generations.
