NEW DELHI, JUN 26 : The Government on Friday released, for the first time, the names of six armed forces personnel who laid down their lives during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Their names will now be inscribed at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The six personnel include five from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force. They are Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, and IAF Sergeant Surendra Kumar.
The names were released along with the list of all defence personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during various military operations in 2025.
The bravehearts will be honoured at the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) at the National War Memorial, where the names, ranks and units of soldiers who have laid down their lives in service of the nation since Independence are engraved on granite walls.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. India carried out precision strikes on what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan responded with aerial engagements, drone attacks and cross-border shelling, leading to a four-day military confrontation that concluded on May 10, 2025.
The operation was named “Sindoor”, symbolising tribute and justice for the families of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.
