SRINAGAR, JUN 26 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday strongly rejected allegations of “backdoor appointments” levelled by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, asserting that his government would place the complete facts before the public within the next two days.
Responding to the allegations, Abdullah said those accusing his government had themselves been involved in illegal appointments during their tenure.
“There is a saying about the pot calling the kettle black. Those who made the most illegal and backdoor appointments, and whose appointments were later cancelled by the courts, are now making these allegations,” the Chief Minister told reporters in Srinagar.
The remarks came a day after Mehbooba Mufti alleged that the National Conference-led government had made 25,000 backdoor appointments in the Union Territory.
Abdullah claimed that during the PDP-BJP government, several appointments were made through the backdoor, including one involving a relative of the then chief minister, which was later struck down by the courts. He also referred to alleged irregular appointments in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, saying investigative agencies were still probing those cases.
The Chief Minister challenged the PDP to produce evidence to support its claims.
“If they can produce even one name of a person appointed through the backdoor by this government, we are ready to respond. We have collected all the facts, and within a day or two, two senior ministers will address the media and present the complete truth before the people,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Abdullah joined the Ashura gathering at Zadibal in Srinagar, where he participated in commemorations marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and distributed refreshments to mourners.
He said the sacrifice of Imam Hussain continues to inspire people to uphold truth and justice, and expressed hope that the Ashura procession would eventually be restored to its traditional route in Srinagar.
