KARGIL: Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk, on Tuesday flagged off a group of 40 students and 10 escort teachers from different educational zones of the district for an educational exposure tour outside the Union Territory under the Samagra Shiksha programme.

The initiative aims to provide students with experiential learning opportunities by exposing them to educational, cultural and historical institutions beyond the classroom, helping bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding.

Flagging off the contingent, the CEO said exposure visits play a crucial role in broadening students’ perspectives and enriching their learning experiences. He noted that Ladakh’s unique geographical setting makes such educational tours particularly important for enabling students to connect with different regions of the country.

“Learning becomes more meaningful when students are able to observe, interact and experience things firsthand,” Wangchuk said, adding that visits to historical sites, educational institutions and places of national importance help students develop a deeper understanding of subjects taught in classrooms.

He further observed that exposure tours encourage curiosity, critical thinking and personal growth while fostering a greater appreciation of the country’s cultural and social diversity.

Officials said the programme has been organised under Samagra Shiksha with the objective of transforming conventional classroom instruction into real-world learning experiences and providing students with opportunities for educational and cultural exchange.

The participating students and teachers are expected to visit various institutions and places of educational significance during the tour, enabling them to gain practical insights and broader exposure.

Education Department officials expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to the overall development of students by making learning more engaging, memorable and relevant to their future academic pursuits.
