LEH: Former Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on Monday met representatives of the Rehbar e Khel teaching cadre in Leh and voiced firm support for their demand for regularisation as they near the end of their seven-year contractual probation period.
During the meeting, Namgyal held an extensive discussion with the delegation and assured that he would take up their concerns with the administration. He recalled that during his tenure in the Lok Sabha he had advocated for an enhancement of honorarium for ReK teachers before central ministries and in Parliament, a move that led to an increase from four thousand to eighteen thousand rupees for the remainder of their contractual term.
The representatives said the cadre now faces acute uncertainty with only two months left for the completion of probation. They noted that the limited number of Physical Education Teacher posts in the Youth Services and Sports Department has left ninety-seven ReK teachers across Leh and Kargil without clarity on their future placement, despite years of service in school level sports promotion.
They appealed for urgent creation and allocation of PET posts as outlined under Cabinet Order 141 Edu YSS of 2017, which provides for the regularisation of eligible ReK teachers against existing or newly sanctioned vacancies.
Namagyal said he expects authorities to consider the matter promptly, citing the broader implications for youth welfare and sports development in Ladakh. He reiterated his willingness to continue advocating for the teachers.
The delegation included Sadiq Ali, Villayat Ali Khan, Tsewang Dorjey, Stanzin Tsomo and Ahmad Ali.
