Padum, Dec 09: Village representatives in Zanskar on Tuesday alleged delays in supply chains, inadequate public services and a growing vulnerability to disruptions once heavy snowfall severs road access, prompting the administration to scrutinize winter preparedness measures.
The concerns were voiced during a review meeting convened by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS) at the Tourist Dak Bungalow, Padum, where Lambardars from multiple villages presented what they described as recurring deficiencies in water supply, road maintenance and the delivery of basic necessities. They cautioned that any lapse could endanger residents when the region becomes cut off during peak winter.
Authorities present at the meeting, including officers from Roads and Buildings as well as Public Health Engineering, were directed by the SDM to promptly redress issues falling within their legal and departmental mandates. He assured that unresolved cases would be referred to higher authorities for swift administrative action under a time-bound framework.
The SDM also took note of public grievances regarding infrastructure strain and logistical hurdles in emergency response. Officials including the Block Development Officer, Naib Tehsildar and the President of the Lambardar Association participated in the review, which aimed to tighten coordination before Zanskar enters its months-long seasonal isolation.
