Leh, Apr 26: Extending its outreach to remote areas of Ladakh, Government Degree College (GDC) Nubra on Saturday conducted an enrolment drive at Higher Secondary School, Sumoor, engaging students of Classes 11 and 12 on academic opportunities and pathways to higher education.
A faculty team from the college briefed students on undergraduate programmes, admission procedures and subject combinations structured under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, while also outlining potential career trajectories linked to various disciplines. The initiative sought to familiarise students with evolving academic frameworks and encourage them to pursue higher studies within the region.
The session developed into an interactive exchange, with students seeking clarity on college life, course selection and future prospects. Faculty members addressed these queries, placing emphasis on informed decision-making at a stage when students begin to define their academic direction.
The outreach assumes importance in Nubra, where access to higher education has been gradually expanding but awareness remains uneven. Speakers highlighted the need to bridge this information gap, noting that sustained engagement between institutions and schools can ease the transition from secondary to tertiary education.
Teachers at the host institution welcomed the initiative, observing that such direct interactions provide students with practical insights that are often unavailable through conventional classroom guidance.
Principal GDC Nubra, Rigzin Sandup, acknowledged the support extended by the school administration and local representatives, including the Nambardar of Sumoor. He reiterated that the college would continue its enrolment outreach across schools in the region, positioning it as part of a broader effort to strengthen participation in higher education across Nubra Valley.
