Leh, Sept 20: The Department of Social Work at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, University of Ladakh, organized an interactive online session on the role of social workers in drug de-addiction centres. The session featured Dr. Ramesh Krishnan, a psychiatric social worker with extensive clinical experience, who shared insights on therapeutic interventions, psychosocial support, and the challenges faced while assisting individuals struggling with substance use.
Dr. Krishnan emphasized the importance of empathy, patience, and professional expertise in supporting recovery, providing students with practical knowledge beyond textbook learning. The session encouraged students to engage actively, with discussions reflecting their interest in real-world applications of social work.
The programme was guided by Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Head of the Department, and coordinated by Jaspreet Singh, along with Dr. Tanushree Malakar. Dr. Syed Ali Shah, Head of the Department of Psychology, appreciated the initiative and called for more such interactive academic activities. Principal Professor Stanzin Yangdol was also acknowledged for her consistent support in organizing educational events.
The Department of Social Work plans to continue these sessions to enhance the professional learning and practical understanding of its students, reinforcing their preparedness for careers in social service and rehabilitation.
