NEW DELHI, Dec 30: Dense fog severely disrupted operations at Delhi airport on Tuesday, leading to the cancellation of 118 flights, diversion of 16 services, and delays in 130 flights. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), operated by DIAL, typically handles around 1,300 flights daily. An official confirmed that 60 arrivals and 58 departures were cancelled, while 16 flights were diverted to alternative airports. Data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com showed that 130 flights experienced delays on Tuesday morning, with the average departure delay hovering around 28 minutes. In a morning post on X, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) stated that all flight operations continue normally, though flights that are not CAT III compliant may face disruptions. CAT III compliance enables pilots to operate aircraft in low visibility conditions. In response to the fog and poor visibility, the civil aviation ministry on Tuesday directed airlines to strictly adhere to passenger facilitation norms. These measures include timely flight information updates, provision of meals for delayed passengers, rebooking or refunds in case of cancellations, no denial of boarding after timely check-in, proper baggage handling, and prompt grievance redressal.
