Jammu, May 23 : Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations & Citizen Registration for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, IAS, on Friday reviewed the progress of Self-Enumeration and preparedness for Census 2027 during visits to Kathua and Samba districts, stressing the need for sustained public outreach and timely completion of preparatory activities for the country’s first fully digital Census.

The review meetings were attended by Principal Census Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners Rajesh Sharma of Kathua and Ayushi Sudan of Samba, who briefed the CPCO on district-level preparedness, including House Listing Block (HLB) demarcation, geo-tagging, training of field staff, mapping updates and publicity campaigns.

Officials informed that all identified HLBs in both districts have been fully demarcated and geo-tagged as part of the preparatory exercise. Amit Sharma appreciated the progress and directed authorities to ensure regular updation and verification of jurisdictional records on the HLBC portal.

The CPCO also reviewed the status of training programmes for Enumerators and Supervisors. Officials stated that field-level Census personnel have been trained in digital Census applications, operational protocols and field procedures.

Emphasising wider public participation in the Self-Enumeration process, Amit Sharma called for continued awareness campaigns and coordinated IEC initiatives to strengthen citizen engagement in the digital exercise.

Discussions were also held regarding media outreach, Census material distribution, village and urban jurisdiction updates, and financial management of Census-related activities.

Describing Census 2027 as a major administrative exercise, the CPCO directed all departments to maintain close coordination to ensure transparent, accurate and smooth Census operations across the Union Territory.
