Taisuru, May 13 : Amid the onset of the cultivation season in Kargil district, Councillor Taisuru Abdul Hadi on Tuesday undertook a field inspection of irrigation infrastructure across the constituency and assured farmers that damaged irrigation channels would be restored within the next few weeks to ensure uninterrupted water supply to agricultural lands.
The inspection focused on assessing the condition of irrigation khuls and reviewing the preparedness of the local irrigation network as farming activities gather momentum across the region after the winter period.
During interactions with the Councillor, residents and farmers from several villages raised concerns over damaged and neglected irrigation channels, stating that delays in restoration could adversely affect sowing operations and agricultural productivity during the limited cultivation window in the high-altitude belt.
Responding to the concerns, Abdul Hadi said the matter had already been taken up with the concerned departments and that coordination was underway to expedite restoration and maintenance work on the affected irrigation infrastructure.
He said the administration was committed to ensuring timely water availability to farmers and added that necessary measures would be put in place to minimise disruption during the ongoing agricultural season.
The visit was carried out under a broader initiative aimed at strengthening irrigation preparedness and improving water distribution systems across the constituency, where agriculture remains heavily dependent on glacier-fed irrigation channels.
Residents welcomed the Councillor’s outreach visit and expressed hope that the repair works would be completed without delay, particularly at a time when agricultural activity has started across the region.
