JAMMU: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Jammu Mahanagar today staged a strong protest against the reported lathi-charge and use of force against students in Jharkhand who were demanding justice over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). During the protest, ABVP activists burnt an effigy of the Jharkhand Government and raised slogans demanding transparency, accountability and justice for the affected students.
The protest was led by Shri Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary, ABVP, and Kumari Akriti Chib, State Joint Secretary, ABVP. ABVP activists and students participated in the demonstration and expressed strong opposition to the alleged suppression of the student movement through police action.
Addressing the protesters, Shri Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary, ABVP Jammu Kashmir Ladakh said that the future of thousands of students and job aspirants cannot be compromised due to examination irregularities or administrative failures. He said that instead of suppressing students who are demanding a fair and transparent recruitment process, the Jharkhand Government must ensure an impartial investigation into the allegations surrounding JPSC and JSSC examinations. He demanded that the CBI conduct a fair and independent investigation into the alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks so that the truth is established and those responsible are held accountable.
Sannak Shrivats further stated that the repeated changes in the constitution of the SIT constituted to investigate the matter have raised questions regarding the credibility of the investigation. He said that students must have confidence in the process of justice and that an independent investigation by a central agency would help restore that confidence. He also condemned the reported lathi-charge and arrests of students and demanded that peaceful student protesters be treated with dignity and restraint.
Kumari Akriti Chib, State Joint Secretary, ABVP, said that competitive examinations are a matter of great importance for the future of young aspirants and their credibility must be protected at every cost. She demanded a high-level and independent investigation into the allegations of irregularities and paper leaks in JPSC and JSSC examinations and strict action against every person found responsible. She also demanded that the concerns of students be addressed through dialogue instead of police force.
ABVP Jammu Mahanagar extended solidarity with the students of Jharkhand and endorsed the organisation’s demand for a CBI inquiry into the JPSC-JSSC examination irregularities and alleged paper leaks. ABVP also demanded that examinations whose credibility has come under serious question be reviewed and, wherever necessary, cancelled and conducted afresh through a transparent and secure process.
ABVP further demanded an impartial inquiry into the reported police action against peaceful protesters and strict disciplinary and legal action against officials if any violation of law or established procedure is found. ABVP emphasised that no student should face violence, arbitrary detention or intimidation merely for peacefully raising legitimate concerns regarding their examination and career.
ABVP Jammu Mahanagar also called upon the Jharkhand Government to immediately strengthen examination-security mechanisms, prevent paper leaks and malpractice, ensure transparency in recruitment examinations and establish a system in which students can raise grievances without fear. ABVP maintained that the sanctity of competitive examinations is essential for maintaining public confidence in the recruitment system.
ABVP Jammu Mahanagar appealed to the Jharkhand Government to initiate meaningful dialogue with the protesting students and take time-bound corrective measures. The organisation warned that if the legitimate demands of the students are not addressed and justice is delayed, the student community will continue its democratic struggle through peaceful and constitutional means.
