Jammu, Dec 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that 108 areas across Srinagar now benefit from round-the-clock, uninterrupted electricity supply, reaching approximately 1.25 lakh households or nearly 48% of the city.
The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) successfully integrated 83 additional Srinagar areas into 24-hour power zones following a flawless Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) trial that achieved zero power cuts. Abdullah congratulated KPDCL for this progress, highlighting it as a major step toward reliable electricity amid winter challenges. He added that similar infrastructure upgrades are actively underway in other districts to deliver 24×7 power supply region-wide.
Launched by the central government in July 2021, the RDSS targets enhanced operational efficiency and financial sustainability for power utilities by minimizing technical and commercial losses. In Srinagar, the summer capital, KPDCL and partner agencies executed comprehensive upgrades, including smart meter installations to optimize distribution and ensure consistent supply.
This development marks a transformative phase for Srinagar’s power infrastructure, reducing outages that previously plagued households and businesses, while setting a model for J&K’s energy reliability goals.
