Srinagar, Dec 24: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan sustained injuries after a leopard strayed into the paramilitary camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district and attacked him during breakfast hours.
The wild animal entered the CRPF camp located in the Kapran area of Verinag, south Kashmir, while personnel were gathered in the mess for their morning meal. The leopard suddenly attacked one jawan before swiftly fleeing back into the adjacent forest, catching the security forces off guard. The injured personnel was immediately evacuated and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment for his wounds.
Such wildlife incursions into security camps are not uncommon in forested regions like Verinag, where human habitats border dense forests, increasing risks during routine activities. Officials have likely heightened vigilance and coordinated with wildlife authorities to track the leopard and prevent recurrence, underscoring the dual challenges of security duties and natural threats in Kashmir’s terrain.
