Leh, Dec 16: The Chief Electoral Officer of Leh on Tuesday conducted a quarterly inspection of the Electronic Voting Machine and VVPAT warehouse in the district, as part of mandatory checks prescribed under election law to safeguard the integrity of polling equipment.
The inspection was held at the Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra under the supervision of Chief Electoral Officer Rahul Sharma, IAS, in the presence of the Nodal Officer for EVMs, Sonam Chosjor, JKAS, and Deputy District Election Officer Padma Angmo, JKAS. Representatives of recognised political parties, including the BJP, Congress and AAP, attended the exercise in compliance with procedural requirements.
Officials examined the security framework of the warehouse, verified the condition of EVM and VVPAT containers and reviewed the sealing arrangements of storage rooms. The inspection also involved checking records to ensure that custody and access protocols were being followed in accordance with statutory election guidelines.
Election authorities stated that the quarterly inspection is a routine obligation under electoral rules, carried out during the opening and closing of the warehouse in the presence of political party representatives. The process is intended to prevent tampering, ensure accountability and maintain public confidence in the electoral system.
No irregularities were reported during the inspection, officials said, adding that such periodic reviews are essential to uphold transparency and adherence to established election norms.
