NEW DELHI, May 22: The Centre has extended the tenure of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) chief Anurag Garg until July 31, 2027, Personnel Ministry officials said on Friday.
Garg, a 1993‑batch Indian Police Service officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, was appointed Director General of the NCB in September 2024. His original term was due to end on May 23, 2026. An Appointments Committee of the Cabinet order dated May 21 approved the extension of his deputation tenure up to the date of his superannuation.
Under Garg’s leadership, the NCB has recently disrupted several drug‑trafficking networks, including the country’s first major seizure of Captagon. On May 16, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the bust of an international syndicate and a seizure of 227 kg of Captagon, valued at about Rs 182 crore. The NCB also secured the return last month of alleged international trafficker Mohammad Salim Dola from Turkiye.
