Kargil, Apr 10: Stressing the need for efficient healthcare delivery and improved institutional preparedness, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Thursday said that maintaining high standards of cleanliness, service readiness and administrative coordination remains essential as District Hospital Kargil prepares for the forthcoming visit of Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena.
Dr. Akhoon was speaking during an inspection of the hospital, undertaken to review arrangements and assess the overall preparedness of the institution. The visit assumes importance in view of the proposed renaming of the hospital as Qambar Ali Akhoon Memorial Hospital, alongside a series of planned developmental initiatives.
Conducting a detailed round of the premises, the Councillor examined the condition of wards, availability of essential medical equipment, and the functioning of various departments. He underscored the need for systematic hospital management practices and directed officials to ensure that sanitation standards are rigorously maintained across all sections of the facility.
During interactions with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abass, as well as medical and administrative staff, Dr. Akhoon reviewed staffing levels, infrastructure readiness and the operational status of critical services. He emphasised that both routine healthcare delivery and emergency response systems must remain fully functional and responsive, particularly in light of the upcoming high-level visit.
The inspection also included a review of proposed infrastructure developments linked to the Lieutenant Governor’s programme. These include the laying of the foundation stone for a nursing college and the inauguration of a blood bank. Dr. Akhoon instructed the concerned authorities to expedite the identification of a suitable site for the nursing college and to complete all requisite formalities, including documentation and preliminary groundwork, within stipulated timelines.
Reiterating the importance of patient care, he directed the hospital administration to strengthen emergency services, ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and consumables, and uphold hygiene standards throughout the complex.
Hospital authorities apprised the Councillor that preparatory measures are in progress and assured that all arrangements would be completed in advance to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Lieutenant Governor’s visit.
The inspection forms part of a broader administrative effort to streamline healthcare services in Kargil, with a focus on improving infrastructure, strengthening institutional capacity, and ensuring readiness for upcoming official engagements.
