Leh: In a moment of immense pride for Ladakh and the nation, Captain Jigmet Chunzen, a young footballer hailing from the Union Territory of Ladakh, has made her senior international debut for the Indian Women’s Football Team at the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has congratulated Captain Jigmet Chunzen on this significant milestone, lauding her achievement as a shining example of Ladakh’s growing contribution to national sports. Extending his warm wishes, the Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence that her performance and dedication will continue to bring laurels to the country.

“Captain Jigmet Chunzen’s selection and debut at an international championship reflects her talent, perseverance and commitment to excellence. Her journey will inspire young athletes, especially girls from remote and high-altitude regions, to dream big and pursue sports as a career,” the Lieutenant Governor said in his message.

The SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship, being held for the first time, marks a major step in the development of women’s futsal in South Asia, bringing together top teams from the region and offering players a global platform to showcase their skills. Chunzen’s inclusion in the national squad at such a landmark tournament underscores her growing stature in Indian women’s football.

Known for her agility, tactical awareness and disciplined gameplay, Chunzen has steadily risen through domestic circuits to earn her place in the national side. Her achievement is being widely celebrated across Ladakh, where sports enthusiasts, youth groups and local clubs have hailed her as a role model for aspiring players.

Observers believe that her international debut will give a fresh impetus to women’s football and futsal in the Union Territory, encouraging greater participation and institutional support for sports development in the region.

With the blessings of the people of Ladakh and the good wishes of the Lieutenant Governor, Captain Jigmet Chunzen now carries the hopes of a region as she steps onto the international stage, aiming to make India proud at the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship and beyond.
