Washington, Jan 4 (PTI) US President Joe Biden has renominated Eric Garcetti as his envoy to India, with the White House exuding confidence that the former Mayor of Los Angeles would be confirmed by the Senate this time. Garcetti, 51, is a close aide of President Biden. He has been Mayor of Los Angeles since 2013. “Eric M Garcetti, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of India,” the White House said after sending the nomination to the Senate.
Kohima, Jan 4 (PTI) The Nagaland cabinet decided to appeal to the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) to reconsider their demand for a separate state and not to boycott the assembly elections. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet on Tuesday, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu. “While extending our solidarity to the ENPO people, the state cabinet decided to appeal to them to reconsider their demand in the greater interest of the Naga people,” he said.
New Delhi, Jan 4 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed by her friend following a fallout between them in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Monday afternoon. The accused, identified as Sukhvinder Singh (22), has been arrested, the police said and added that the victim’s condition was stable.

New Delhi, Jan 4 (PTI) Aviation regulator DGCA on Wednesday said it has sought a report from Air India on the incident of a passenger urinating on a co-passenger onboard a flight from New York to Delhi. The watchdog also said it will take action against those found negligent with respect to the incident, while Air India has set up an internal committee to look into the matter and decide on appropriate action. On November 26, an inebriated male passenger urinated on a female co-passenger during the flight from New York to Delhi, according to reports.
New Delhi, Jan 4 (PTI) India recorded 175 new Covid infections in a day while active caseload declined to 2,570, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The tally of Covid cases in India is at 4.46 crore while the death toll is 5,30,707, data updated at 8 am stated. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.09 per cent while the weekly positivity was 0.12 per cent.

New Delhi, Jan 3 (PTI) An IndiGo plane enroute to Phuket suffered a hydraulic system problem and returned to Delhi airport on Tuesday morning, according to officials. The A320 neo plane, which left for Phuket in Thailand at around 6.25 am, returned to the airport here at about 7.20 am due to hydraulic failure, airport sources said. The sources said the aircraft landed safely at Delhi airport.
Paradip (Odisha), Jan 3 (PTI) Another Russian was found dead in Odisha on Tuesday, the third such incident in a fortnight, police said. The Russian, identified as Milyakov Sergey, was found dead in a ship anchored at Paradip Port in Jagatsinghpur district. The 51-year-old man was the chief engineer of the vessel, M B Aldnah, which was on its way to Mumbai from Chittagong Port in Bangladesh via Paradip.
