Lahore, Jan 4 (PTI) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Wednesday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking an order to stop the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from a process to remove him from the party chairperson office in the light of his disqualification in the Toshakhana reference. The ECP last month initiated the process to remove Khan as chairman of the PTI following its verdict in the Toshakhana (national depository) case. It disqualified the ousted premier under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution for making “false statements and incorrect declaration”.
Washington, Jan 5 (PTI) The United States is concerned about China’s handling of COVID-19, US President Joe Biden said Wednesday and noted that Beijing is not that forthcoming. “Well, yes, I am,” Biden told reporters when asked if he was concerned about the COVID-19 situation in China. New Delhi, Jan 4 (PTI) The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal on Wednesday directed Google to pay 10 per cent of the Rs 1,337.76-crore penalty imposed on the tech giant by fair trade regulator CCI. A two-member bench admitted the petition filed by Google against the Competition Commission of India (CCI) penalty. It, however, declined to grant any immediate stay over the operations and said it would pass any order after hearing out other parties.

Singapore, Jan 4 (PTI) A 36-year-old Malaysian man of Indian-origin was sentenced to seven years’ jail and 12 strokes of the cane for robbing another man of more than SGD 624,000 worth of cash and then fleeing to Malaysia, where he stayed for eight years before getting caught. Sivaraam Monion from Malaysia pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one charge of gang robbery. He was the last in a group of nine men involved in the crime to be sentenced. Washington, Jan 4 (PTI) A 41-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in the US on suspicion of attempted murder and child abuse after he intentionally drove a Tesla off a cliff with his wife and two children inside, according to media reports. Dharmesh A Patel of Pasadena, California, will be booked into San Mateo County Jail after he is released from a hospital, the highway patrol said in a statement. Patel, his wife and children survived and were rescued on Monday at Devil’s Slide in San Mateo County, the California Highway Patrol said.
