NEW DELHI, Dec 10: Amazon will invest USD 35 billion (over Rs 3.14 lakh crore) in India by 2030, spanning all its businesses with a strong emphasis on AI-led digitisation, boosting exports and generating employment, a senior company executive said on Wednesday.
Announcing the plan at the Amazon Smbhav Summit, Senior VP (Emerging Markets) Amit Agarwal said the company aims to ramp up cumulative exports enabled from India to USD 80 billion, up from around USD 20 billion at present, and create an additional one million direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs in the country by 2030.
“Amazon has already invested USD 40 billion in India since 2010, and now we will deploy another USD 35 billion here by 2030 across all our businesses,” Agarwal said, noting that this commitment is roughly double Microsoft’s USD 17.5 billion India plan and about 2.3 times Google’s USD 15 billion investment target for the same period.
Citing a Keystone report based on public data, Agarwal said Amazon is currently the largest foreign investor in India, with its earlier commitments including a USD 12.7 billion allocation announced in May 2023 for cloud and AI infrastructure in Telangana and Maharashtra, of which USD 3.7 billion was invested between 2016 and 2022. The company has poured capital into large-scale physical and digital infrastructure such as fulfilment centres, logistics networks, data centres, digital payments rails and technology development.
The Keystone report estimates Amazon has digitised over 12 million small businesses in India, enabled USD 20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, and supported about 2.8 million jobs (direct, indirect, induced and seasonal) across sectors as of 2024. To further accelerate exports, Amazon has launched a manufacturing-focused initiative, “Accelerate Exports”, which links digital entrepreneurs with trusted manufacturers and helps manufacturers sell globally. As part of this programme, the company will hold on-ground onboarding drives in more than 10 manufacturing hubs, including Tirupur, Kanpur and Surat, and has announced a partnership with the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India to scale the initiative nationwide.
