Leh, Jan 30: Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh has directed the launch of special lease renewal camps in Leh town for the renewal of expired lease deeds granted prior to March 31, 1997, leading to immediate action by the District Administration, Leh.
Acting on the instructions of the Chief Secretary, the district administration has started dedicated camps at the Housing Colony Committee Hall and the Tehsil Office, Leh, to facilitate a simplified and time-bound renewal process for eligible leaseholders.
The administration has appealed to the general public to identify and submit details of expired lease cases in and around Leh town where the original lease was granted before March 31, 1997. All such cases, subject to eligibility, will be examined and processed within a prescribed time frame in accordance with the applicable rules and guidelines.
Officials said the exercise is aimed at resolving long-pending lease renewal cases and providing administrative relief to residents whose applications have remained unresolved for years.
The special camps are part of a broader reform initiative in the revenue administration being steered at the level of the Union Territory, with a focus on improving service delivery and addressing land-related concerns of the people of Ladakh.
In a parallel decision taken under the directions of the Chief Secretary, seventeen revenue-related services—except the issuance of copies of maps—will now be made available in online mode.
These services include the issuance of true copies of revenue records, extracts of Jamabandi, Girdwari, mutation records and Shajra Nasb. Residents will be able to access the services through the official land records portal at https://landrecords.ladakh.gov.in.
Officials said the move is expected to reduce procedural delays and minimise physical visits to revenue offices.
The Chief Secretary has also issued firm directions to the Revenue Department to ensure regulatory clarity between powers related to land allotment and land use in both urban and rural areas of Ladakh.
The directions emphasise the need for a balanced regulatory framework that supports planned development while also accommodating the economic aspirations of the people of the region.
Further steps in the revenue sector are expected as part of the ongoing administrative reform agenda of the Union Territory.
