LEH: With the arrival of the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha just a day away, prayer ceremonies across Ladakh gathered pace on Tuesday, with Thiksey Monastery hosting a special congregation of monks invoking peace and spiritual harmony ahead of the exposition.

More than 20 monks participated in the rituals at Thiksey Monastery, offering prayers for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming exposition and for the well-being of devotees expected to gather from across the Union Territory. The ceremony forms part of a coordinated series of religious observances being held in monasteries across Ladakh.

The revered relics are scheduled to reach Ladakh on April 29, in what is being described by religious authorities as a rare occasion for the region. The main exposition is slated to begin at Jivetsal in Leh on May 2 and will continue until May 14. During this period, the relics will also be taken to Zanskar, allowing wider access for devotees.

Officials associated with the arrangements said preparations have been proceeding in a phased manner, with monasteries hosting prayers on designated dates. The final ceremony in this sequence is scheduled to take place at Spituk Monastery on April 29, coinciding with the arrival of the relics.

On Monday, similar ceremonies were conducted at Dorjey-lden Monastery in Stakna under the aegis of the Ladakh Gonpa Association. Monks assembled in the prayer hall, where chants and rituals echoed through the monastery as part of the spiritual build-up to the exposition.

Religious leaders maintain that these ceremonies are aimed at ensuring both the sanctity of the event and the spiritual preparedness of the region. The exposition is expected to draw devotees and visitors, marking an important moment in Ladakh’s religious calendar.

As the countdown to the exposition enters its final phase, monasteries across Ladakh continue to resonate with prayers, reflecting a collective anticipation rooted in faith and tradition.
