LEH: The Animal Husbandry Department in Leh concluded a three-day training programme for para-veterinary workers under the ASCAD scheme, focusing on strengthening grassroots livestock healthcare services through technical upskilling and field-based learning.
Held from April 23 to 25, the programme was conducted under the Research & Innovation, Training, Publicity and Awareness component of the ASCAD initiative. Officials said the training was designed to improve both the theoretical understanding and practical capabilities of para-veterinary workers, who serve as the first line of support for livestock owners in remote regions.
Participants were introduced to updated technological interventions for diagnosing and managing a range of livestock diseases under field conditions. The sessions emphasised early detection, preventive care and efficient treatment practices tailored to the challenging terrain and climate of Ladakh.
The department also incorporated hands-on learning modules, with farm demonstrations conducted at its facilities. These practical sessions allowed trainees to apply clinical techniques and gain direct exposure to real-time animal health management scenarios.
Officials noted that such programmes are part of a broader effort to reinforce veterinary outreach services in rural and high-altitude areas, where access to advanced veterinary infrastructure remains limited.
The training concluded with participants expressing confidence in applying newly acquired skills to improve livestock health outcomes, which remain closely tied to the region’s agrarian economy.
