Leh, Jan 31: In a moment of immense pride for Ladakh, Commandant Tashi Namgyal has scripted history by becoming the first officer from the region to be promoted to the prestigious rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The promotion ceremony was held at the North West Frontier (NWF) of ITBP, where Inspector General Dr. Akun Sabharwal-IPS formally conferred the rank insignia during a dignified pipping ceremony.

Tashi Namgyal’s elevation to DIG is being hailed as a landmark moment, reflecting his unwavering dedication, exemplary service and leadership within one of India’s premier paramilitary forces. His journey from the rugged landscapes of Ladakh to the senior ranks of ITBP stands as a testament to perseverance, discipline and commitment to the nation.

Adding to his remarkable profile, DIG Tashi Namgyal is also an international archer who has represented India on global platforms. As a trailblazer in uniform and sports, he embodies excellence both on the field and in service, inspiring countless young Ladakhis to pursue their aspirations with determination.

His promotion is not only a personal accomplishment but also a proud moment for the entire region, symbolising Ladakh’s growing contribution to national security and leadership in uniform. Locals and well-wishers have described him as a true “Son of the Soil,” whose success will motivate the youth of Ladakh to dream big and serve the country with honour.
