Leh, Jan 30: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, on Friday held separate meetings with the Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Secretary of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), taking up a range of academic and recruitment-related concerns affecting students and job aspirants from the Union Territory.

During his interaction with the CBSE Chairman, the Ladakh MP sought a comprehensive review of issues faced by school students from the region, particularly in view of Ladakh’s unique geographic and climatic conditions.

According to officials familiar with the meeting, the discussion focused on revisiting the Class X and Class XII examination calendar, setting up a dedicated CBSE unit in Ladakh, rationalisation of examination centre allotments and the present status of Government schools in the Union Territory. The affiliation process of private schools operating in Ladakh was also raised during the meeting.

Jan also flagged difficulties being faced by Ladakhi candidates appearing in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). He urged the Board to ensure that Ladakhi youth presently residing in Jammu, Srinagar and Chandigarh are allotted examination centres closer to their current places of residence.

The CBSE Chairman assured the Member of Parliament that sincere efforts would be made to explore a suitable solution to the issues raised.

Later in the day, the Ladakh MP met the Secretary of the Union Public Service Commission and placed before him a set of recruitment-related concerns linked to the Union Territory.

Jan sought a one-time relaxation in the submission of domicile certificates for candidates applying to the Accounts Officer post. He also raised the matter of delays in recruitment to gazetted posts and pressed for early processing of all advertised vacancies, besides initiating pending recruitment cases without further delay.

The UPSC Secretary assured that the Commission is actively working on recruitments connected to Ladakh and that all advertised posts would be completed at the earliest.
