Kargil, Oct 09: Community Health Centres across Kargil marked World Sight Day with programs aimed at promoting eye health and preventing visual impairment. The events, held at the Community Health Centre in Sankoo and the Primary Health Centre in Trespone, focused on this year’s theme, “Love Your Eyes.”
At CHC Sankoo, the program was organized by the Block Medical Officer in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Munawar Hussain Wazir, Consultant Ophthalmologist, addressed attendees, emphasizing the significance of preventive eye care. ASHA workers participating in the event were briefed on conditions such as glaucoma and presbyopia, highlighting strategies for early detection and management.
Meanwhile, PHC Trespone hosted simultaneous eye screening camps to provide essential check-ups to the local population. Health authorities encouraged residents to prioritize regular eye examinations and adopt measures to protect vision.
World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global initiative designed to raise awareness about blindness and visual impairment. The day was first launched by the SightFirst Campaign of the Lions Club International Foundation in 2000.
