Nyoma, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day was observed with patriotic zeal at Nyoma Sub-Division where residents, students and officials gathered at Government Middle School Nyoma to mark the occasion. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kacho Asgar Ali unfurled the Tricolour and addressed the gathering, recalling the struggle for freedom and urging citizens to uphold the spirit of unity and service.
The morning echoed with parades as seven contingents representing local schools, the Ladakh Police, the NCC and KGBV Nyoma marched smartly before the spectators. Adding rhythm to the ceremony, a marching band set the pace for the contingents. Villagers from Mudh, Nyoma, Nidhar and Teyar joined students from several institutions in staging cultural programmes that drew loud applause.
In his address, the SDM praised the contribution of the teaching community, security forces and government employees in the remote region. Outstanding staff from different departments were felicitated for their dedication, a gesture that was warmly received by the audience.
The spirit of competition was equally alive on the parade ground. Higher Secondary School Nyoma secured the top spot in the March Past, followed by KGBV Nyoma and Middle School Mudh. In the cultural segment, KGBV claimed first place, Higher Secondary School Nyoma came second while Middle School Mudh stood third. Consolation prizes were also presented to encourage wider participation.
The day concluded with the distribution of prizes to winners, as the gathering dispersed with chants of patriotism and pride. What began as a formal flag-hoisting turned into a lively celebration of local talent, discipline and community spirit—an Independence Day that blended tradition with youthful energy in the heart of Nyoma.
