Leh, Oct 13: A group of 74 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Officer Trainees has embarked on a Himalayan Study Tour in Ladakh, hosted in collaboration with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The tour marks an important component of their field training, aimed at familiarizing the officers with India’s border regions, their socio-economic challenges, and the strategic importance of the Himalayan frontiers.
The programme commenced with an opening ceremony at ITBP NW Frontier Hqrs, where Dr. Akun Sabharwal, Inspector General, addressed the officer trainees. In his motivating speech, Dr. Sabharwal emphasized the values of endurance, discipline, and service to the nation, underscoring their significance not only for the armed forces but also for officers in civil administration.
During their stay in Ladakh, the IRS Officer Trainees will interact with ITBP personnel, visit border villages, and gain first-hand insights into community engagement initiatives undertaken in high-altitude regions. The tour will also expose them to the harsh living conditions, logistical challenges, and developmental efforts in remote Himalayan areas, fostering a deeper appreciation of the resilience and commitment required to serve the nation in such terrains.
The initiative reflects the government’s emphasis on integrated field exposure for civil service officers, encouraging them to understand India’s diverse landscapes, cultures, and governance needs at the grassroots level.
The study tour is expected to not only build cross-service camaraderie between the IRS and ITBP but also instill a stronger sense of national service, empathy, and responsibility among the young officers as they prepare to take up key roles in India’s revenue administration.
