Leh, Oct 13: In a landmark announcement, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, declared that the All India University North Zone Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 will be hosted at the University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus from October 24 to 27, 2025.
Expressing pride and joy, Prof. Kushwaha said that this is the first time the University of Ladakh has been chosen to host such a prestigious sporting event, marking a historic moment for the Union Territory. The championship is being organized under the leadership of Dr. Mehboob, Incharge Director, Kargil Campus, and Dr. Dechen Jigmet, with support from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
“This is a proud moment for us as the University of Ladakh brings this national-level women’s sports event to the region,” said Prof. Kushwaha. “It will not only promote women’s empowerment but also support the spirit of initiatives like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, encouraging our daughters and sisters to excel in sports.”
The championship will see participation from around 32 universities across North India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
Prof. Kushwaha urged the people of Ladakh to extend full support and participate actively in making the event a grand success. “We will also ensure participation from our own teachers and students, giving them the opportunity to witness and be part of this milestone event,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the AIU for granting Ladakh the opportunity to host the championship, Prof. Kushwaha said, “The world considers Ladakh a challenging region, but this event will showcase our spirit and capability to the nation. I thank all participating universities, sports directors, judges, students, and officials for their cooperation.”
He concluded with a call to unity: “Let us come together to make this event a symbol of progress, empowerment, and national integration. Together, we can take the Union Territory of Ladakh to greater heights.”
